Just got back from a week on tour with Colin Townes Blue Touch Paper project. It was a real pleasure to be around Mark Lockheart, Benny Greb, Stephan Maas, Arnd Geise, Colin, Jo and Toby. I found some amazing vinyl shops in Manchester and spent all my tour fee on this amazing music! Earlier in February me and Kit Downes went to Hamburg to do some playing/writing with benny Greb for the new band ‘Moving Parts’, Im really proud to be in this trio, it sounds very good already. Here’s a few things to watch out for this month:
14th March Troyka are playing at Kings Place along with Magnus Ostrom’s band. Buy tickets here:
This month is also busy with Trish Clowes. Im off to record some tracks for her new album with Gwillym Simcock, James Maddren and Callum Gourlay. Also a session from Maida Vale and a BBC broadcast from the Southbank on Friday 28th if you’re around to see that.
Also, here is an interview with me for Jazz on 3 about my stuff. Thanks Trish Clowes for this:
Anyway, Im off to listen to these new records.
Welcome to the new site folks, I’m going to keep this updated more often, feel free to get in touch. I’m very busy (as you can see) learning a pile of music for a recording with Trish Clowes’ new album at Air studios, a gig this Saturday at Kings Place with Reuben Fowler’s big band project, and a gig at Celtic Connections festival with BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra at the end of the month, with Trish Clowes, Martin France and Calum Gourlay, which is being broadcast on Radio 3.
This year we’re doing another Troyka trio album, I’m really excited about this, it sounds great already, just a few new things to go on. We are also doing some gigs in places we haven’t been yet (see the gigs page) and we might be doing a recording with unbelievable bassist Petter Eldh (Django Bates’ Beloved Bird). Also this year Monocled Man are releasing their debut, sounding very grimy and serene in equal measure. In Feb try to get down to see Colin Towns Blue Touch Paper tour where we’re promoting the 2nd release of this band. I also get to play with my pal Benny Greb in his new trio with me and Kit Downes.
